Sac DSA's Socialist Education Committee is proud to present a Socialist Night School! This study series examines a wide range of topics with the goal of raising awareness around key socialist concepts.

The Socialist Night School is comprised of four distinct modules. Each module includes a lecture with ample time to discuss, dissect, and debate these topics in a facilitated group conversation. We welcome you to join us!

Civics and Praxis: How to Force Politicians to Listen to You
ROOM 11

Have you ever wondered how you sign up to speak at a city council meeting? Do you wonder if it is more effective to call your congressperson or to send them an email? Have you wondered how you can apply all of this anti-capitalist theory that we throw at you in the real world? If you answered yes to any of these then you are the perfect student for this class.

Civics and Praxis is a lesson in how you can bring anti-capitalist practices into your organizing in order to bring real effective change in your local community. The objective of this class is for students to realize their class power by teaching them practical applications of anti-capitalist theory. There will be lessons on lobbying, bird-dogging, and Robert’s Rules of Order, all of which will strengthen your ability to use these tools with an anti-capitalist lense. You will learn how to force even the worst of politicians to listen to you and you will learn basic skills about how to approach your local government. Nothing scares capitalist politicians like people using their class power.
